The Only Tournament of it's Kind

In The World

2024 Highlights

Our Story
lfphc

In 2013, the city of Anchorage approached me to gauge my interest in planning an event in conjunction with Anchorages 2015 Centennial Celebration.  As the Director of the Scotty Gomez Foundation - my life has revolved around helping children experience the game of hockey, so it was natural to suggest a pond hockey event.  What better way to bring the hockey community of Alaska together to celebrate hockey with the purpose of helping young people experience the greatest game in the northern hemisphere. With help from the city of Anchorage, the inaugural installment of The Last Frontier Pond Hockey Classic became a reality in 2013. After two years in Anchorage at Goose Lake we became Anchorages largest hockey event but knew to grow we needed to look at other locations.  For the 2017 event, we found a new home for the Last Frontier Pond Hockey Classic in Big Lake.  With 13 rinks, a goal of 100 teams, a family rink, a 40’x100’ warming tent, food, drinks, a concert and of course, lots of hockey - we are excited to relocate to the Burkeshore Marina for the 3rd Annual event.   Not a hockey player?  No problem.  With music, food and the outdoors, there is guaranteed fun for the entire family.  While skating on the family rink, enjoy watching Alaska’s greatest sport on any of the now 20 ice rinks. All proceeds from the event go directly to the Scotty Gomez Foundation.  We encourage everyone to visit www.scottygomezfoundation.com to better understand our mission. We see a great future for The Last Frontier Pond Hockey Classic and hope you'll be a part of it, either through being on a team or coming to watch and enjoy the tournament.  Our goal is to have teams from all around the world and to make this the greatest pond hockey tournament in the world.  We look forward to seeing you!
